Coning or ear candling is relaxing, allowing your body, mind, and spirit to feel nurtured.

The benefits have been documented through case histories by qualified practitioners.  The benefits include, improved hearing, vision, taste, smell, balance and sharpened mental ability. Ear coning helps to detoxify the sinus, lymph congestion, sore throat, earache, swimmers ear, chronic headaches and even allergies.  Every body is different, yet coning is a therapy that adults, children, and even animals can benefit from.  All who experience coning agree it is safe, soothing, relaxing, painless, and non-invasive.

Vacuum Cleaning: How Ear Candles Work
Ear candling, also known as ear coning, is a method intended to dislodge earwax, toxins, and debris from inside the ear with the use of hollow candles with tapered ends. The candles are made from unbleached cotton material covered in wax and range between ten to fourteen inches long and one-half to three-quarters of an inch wide at the smaller end.

The healing properties of the Ear Candle has its foundation in two primary physical actions. Firstly, the slight under pressure (the chimney effect) inside the Ear Candle and the vibration of the rising air column serve to gently massage the ear drum and promote secretion in the frontal and paranasal sinuses. This has an immediate subjective effect of regulating ear pressure. Users often describe a soothing, light sensation in the ear/head area. Secondly, the locally applied warmth stimulates vascularization , invigorates the immune system and reinforces the flow of lymph. At the same time, important acupuncture points and reflex zones are stimulated.

Secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Most of these are carried away through the candle "chimney", although some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after removal from the ear, or could even work their way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.

What are Ear Candles used for?
EarCandles are excellent in the treatment of nose and throat congestion, sinusitis, headaches, T.M.J. pain, tinnitus and otitis externa/tropical ear. Ideal relaxation treatment for stress or anxiety related symptoms. Softens earwax for easy removal.

Though results may vary from patient to patient, Ear Candles have been found to be helpful with:

  • Excessive or compacted wax in the ears
  • Irritation in ears and sinuses
  • Pressure regulation in cases of : sinusitis / rhinitis / glue ear / colds / flu / headaches / migraine
  • Stimulation of local and reflex energy flow
  • Energetic revitalization in cases of hearing impairment
  • Relaxing and calming effect in cases of stress
  • Noises in the ears, ringing, tinnitus
Ear Candling Procedure
Due to the type of procedure it is vital to find someone to help you with the procedure. Wearing a protective covering with an ear-access hole, the person being treated lies sideways while another person places the tapered end of the candle into the ear canal, lights the other end, and holds the candle straight until it burns to about two-three inches from the ear. As the flame seeks oxygen to burn, it converts the inside of the hollow candle into a vacuum that draws residue out of the ear and up into the candle.

Does it hurt?

No.  There is absolutely no discomfort during ear coning.   If you experience any pain while coning, stop immediately, as this is an indication of a more serious problem than coning can address.  Coning is safe and painless.  Some people  become so relaxed they fall asleep during coning.

What are the benefits?

Ear coning is not a cure-all, but has proven to be a successful and economic alternative to having Tympanotomy tubes inserted or having your ears flushed with water by a physician.  The non-invasive coning process has been known to improve hearing, lymph circulation, and balance.  Our clients report relief from tinnitus, vertigo, and pressure regulation.

A word of caution:

Remember, ear coning is not a cure for any disease or specific ailment.  Coning is not designed to take the place of professional medical advice or treatment when it is indicated.  It's important to note that some people should not use cones.  For instance, people who have had ear, nose, throat or sinus surgery recently, and those with tubes in the ears are not candidates for coning.  Anyone with ear drum rupture, perforation, or experiencing bleeding of the ear, should see a doctor immediately as this indicates a serious ear problem.
